WAEC Considers CBT for Objective Questions – Official

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is considering migrating to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode of examinations for objective questions, an official has said in Lagos.

Mr Olutise Adenipekun, Head, National Office of WAEC in Lagos, made the plan known an interview while announcing the 2015 November/ December examination results on Thursday.

Adenipekun said that one of the council’s objectives was to consider migrating to CBT in all its objective questions in line with current technological trends.

According to him, the council is pursuing this with vigour and is looking toward its realisation soon. Adenipekun said that the council would partner the Ministries of Education at the federal and state levels in exposing teachers to training on the new processes and procedures to standardised tests. He said that the process would expose the Nigerian child to the benefits of information and communication technology, which was currently driving national economies.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the immediate past Head National Office of WAEC, Mr Charles Eguridu, had in August said that the examination body was not considering adopting CBT.

Eguridu had said that it would amount to “intellectual dishonesty’’ for him to say that the council would introduce CBT in the next five years or the near future.
