A huge sum of money is demanded for the release of the uniport lecturer
SOME unidentified gunmen on Monday kidnapped a lecturer in the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Reginald Ohiri.
The abductors of the lecturer had already established contact with the victim’s family and had demanded N2 million as ransom.
The lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry was whisked away by his abductors to a yet to be known place at gunpoint, a source said.
It was learnt that the gunmen stormed and kidnapped Ohiri at his resident in Aluu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state at about 11pm in the night.
A source in the area, who identified himself as Peter, disclosed that the gunmen broke in to the don’s resident and forced him into a waiting vehicle before zooming off.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of UNIPORT, Dr. William Wodi, said he had heard of the development, but added that he was not aware of when he was abducted.
“I have heard about it. His name is Dr. Ohiri and a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, UNIPORT. I learnt he was kidnapped at his resident in Aluu,” Wodi told Southern City News.
A source, who pleaded that his name should not be mentioned, said the kidnappers had established contact with Ohiri’s family.
The source noted that the abductors were demanding N2 million before they would release of their victim.
When contacted, The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said that he had not been fully briefed on the incident.
